Derbys Finest donates £600 to Local Charities

Our first Derbys Finest event of 2024 took place on the 31st of January, at Amalfi White in Melbourne. We raffled a diamond necklace, which raised £600 for charity. We also had a motivational talk from Elizabeth Fothergill, CBE, The Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire , where she discussed how she has navigated her career so far.

It is part of our vision to be able to give back to charities within the community each year, to allow them to continue doing the great work they do. The £600 raised on the day was split equally between, Safe and Sound, YMCA Derbyshire and Children First.

Safe and Sound is Derbyshire’s specialist child exploitation charity – supporting young people and their families across Derbyshire whose lives have been affected by online grooming, sexual exploitation, County Lines, trafficking, modern slavery and radicalisation.

Chief Executive Officer of Safe and Sound, Tracy Harrison, said “We are so grateful of the donation from Derbys Finest. The £200 will go a long way in helping support young people in our community by providing them with dedicated support worker. It will also help to run awareness sessions for schools, families and communities to help prevent exploitation occurring in the first place.”

YMCA Derbyshire provide the foundations for a fresh, strong start for young people and a better quality of life in the community.

Catherine Bean, Marketing and Fundraising Manager, said “At YMCA, we believe everyone should have a chance to discover who they are and what they can become. However, many young people face barriers that prevent them from being able to achieve this. We support them with everything from housing support, to help with training and education, to general support and advice. Without donations like this, we would not be able to provide these vital services, so thank you!”

Children First Derby aim is to relive distress and suffering faced by children and their families. Their mentoring service gives young people a trained mentor who support with their future, learning new skills and self-esteem. Their supervised family times service allows children that are in the care system to have a safe place for supervised contact, managed by a qualified social worker.

Fundraising Co-ordinator, Louise Webb, thanked Derbys Finest for their donation, “We help families when they are at their most vulnerable, but without the support from people like Derbys Finest we wouldn’t be able to. Thank you so much for helping us to be able to offer these services”.

Our Chair, Claire Twells, said, “It is an honour to be able to donate to these amazing charities. I started Derbys Finest, along with Amanda and Karen to help women and to build a community that encourages, inspires and supports women every day. So, it is my privilege to be able to extend the support we offer to local charities.”

Derbys Finest was formed in 2017,  is ran by Claire Twells and Sophie Shapcott from Smith Partnership, Amanda Strong – Strong Connections and Karen Cureton of Cureton Consulting. A particular focus of Derbys Finest is to inspire and encourage the future generations of females, to show them that they can achieve and thrive as an equal in all areas of society. Derbys Finest supports a number of local charities who benefit from money raised by the group.
